In the popular book Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky, the main character Charlie is an oddball. He is often sitting in a corner thinking about things. People think that he should participate in life more and his sister is very mean to him. He's kind of "hopeless" in a way. He dosn't know much about anything outside of his little world. I start to wonder while i'm reading, why is he so strange when his siblings and family are normal?
Charlie is really weird, and very different from everyone in his family. I think there are a few reasons of why this might be. His sister has always bullied him. calling him "weak" and a "pervert". I think this affected Charlie as a kid making him quiet and insecure. If people were nice to Charlie maybe he could be popular or have lots of friends.
Adding on to the last paragraph, I think another factor is him being the youngest child. A lot of the time the youngest child in a household is the most envied. Once the last baby comes along it's the only child that gets attention for a long time. His siblings probably ganged up on him without him knowing why. This probably made him scared to speak up to them and made him more of the shy person he is today.
A lot of people at his school think that he is weird and they don't talk to him. I think if they got to know him better, they might discover that Charlie is actually an interesting person. People judge him too quickly and I feel like they should give him another chance to speak up. Since his sister is so popular people expect things of him, and when he dosn't meet the "popular" expectations they forget about him. They don't even bother to talk to him.
In conclusion I think that Charlies siblings affected him a lot when he was younger. People had high expectations of him thanks to his siblings. His siblings also bullied him. I just think that overall his siblings are Charlies main issue in his life. Perhaps he would be better off living by himself, but that's not a possibility for him unfortunetely.
