Will Grayson, Social Issue: Bullying

In the book Will Grayson by John Green and David Levithan, there is a common issue in the book of bullying. Although I am not very far into the book the authors make it clear that a social issue in the book is discrimination against gay people. I think bullying is horrible. I really don't see why anyone would do such a thing. So far this book has showed me that anyone can bully behind anyone's back. Even friends bully each other.
In the book, Will the main character, hates and bullies his "friend" Tiny. In the book you hear his thoughts; and without Tiny even knowing, Will makes fun of him and calls him names. Beyond Will bullying Tiny behind his back, the entire school bullies Will and Tiny just for hanging out. I think this is one reason why Will is often so mad at Tiny. I don't think that in any way it's Tiny's fault. Tiny cannot help that he is over the top, very tall, and gay.
I think that Will still pretending to be Tiny's friend while really Will is so mad and mean to Tiny is really wrong. I think this is wrong in any situation. I don't think that any type of bullying is right. No matter if the person doesn't know they are being bullied or if the bullying takes place openly. I think this book is very unique because it makes you dislike the main character. Usually the main character would be the one being bullied but in this book you feel bad for the secondary character, Tiny.
In conclusion i think that it's great that this book stresses this social issue. I think that bullying is one of the top 5 social problems. This book really makes you think about how people can bully without the victim knowing. I don't think that many people realize that when you think someone is your friend they could actually be very mean to you behind your back. This book kind of opens up you eyes to the idea of "fake friends". I still have a lot more reading to do, but this book seems to have the right idea about this social issue.
